From the Author

HOW THIS BOOK CAME TO BE WRITTEN...
I almost didn't write WHEN THERE ARE NO WORDS. As a professional writer by trade, it seemed to me that the one thing I could do as a tribute to our two sons who died was not to turn their deaths into another writing assignment. But... as the years passed... and as the things my wife and I had learned working through our grief helped more and more people... it became obvious that our experience and the things we had learned needed to be put into a form that could travel a lot farther and help a lot more people than we ever could. WHEN THERE ARE NO WORDS is the book I wish somebody could have given me in those first weeks and months of grief... not a syrupy set of platitudes or a text booky description of the stages of grief... but a "conversation" with someone else who has been there. People tell me that it is the one book that has helped them in the earliest stages of numbing grief. Feedback from those who have been helped by WHEN THERE ARE NO WORDS has been very gratifying. Kay and I frequently hear from people who have been given the book by friends who want to help them but find that "there are no words." Some of the things we have learned as a result of WHEN THERE ARE NO WORDS gave rise to a next book entitled PACKING FOR THE BIG TRIP, LIFE BENEFITS FROM DEATH AWARENESS, which is also being published by Pathfinder Publishers and is expected to be available late in 1996. It is always a pleasure to hear from people who have been helped by WHEN THERE ARE NO WORDS. Thanks Amazon for the chance to comment.
