Synopsis
During World War 11, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress was developed to fly the thousands of miles necessary to bomb Japan from US military bases. This huge bomber, America's newest weapon, carried an eleven-man crew and 10 tons of bombs. It was instrumental in winning the war in the Pacific, since it was the only plane capable of carrying such an enormous load; modified B-29s dropped the two atomic bombs which ended the war. The author has collected intimate accounts, including his own, from B-29 pilots and crew members who flew combat missions against Japan. Members of the Japanese Fighter Pilots' Association have authorised a chapter providing personal accounts of flying air missions against B-29 formations.
