To make the performance tuner think about economy (both in cost and fuel) way back in the 1980's is why I'm so impressed with this book. That's not the only reason. A number of statements that Vizard makes forces you to think about the car as a system. If performance tells you that you need intake ports big enough to "feed a Saturn Five rocket motor", think twice before you shell out your money because the camshaft you maybe using may not even utilize the advantages of port geometry. And more valve size may not always mean more breathing, the differences might be absolutely miniscule if you do not modify the chamber walls to reduce valve shroud. Turbos may produce more power for your engine, but depending on the power/displacement that you have, you might be just taking a hit via complexity and cost as well as inefficiency through backpressure increase. Plenty of examples like this are littered in the book, substantiated by clear data from the author's own testing. While the numbers may not always apply, the general picture of cause and effect lends a lot of perspective to the statements. I'd say there's a lot of good advice.
