Synopsis
The Pulitzer Prize-winning play which became the Oscar-winning film - a delicate depiction of racial tensions and of growing old.
Set in mid-century Atlanta, Alfred Uhry's play Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of an elderly Jewish matron, Daisy Werthan, and her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn. At first Daisy is none too happy about being forced to rely on a black man. But Hoke gradually wins her over, and during the 25-year span of the play the two develop a deep-rooted affection.
Driving Miss Daisy was first staged in an Off-Broadway production at Playwrights Horizons Studio Theatre, New York, in April 1987. It was premiered in the UK at the Apollo Theatre in the West End in 1988.

Alfred Uhry is an American playwright and screenwriter. His accolades include an Academy Award, two Tony Awards, and the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for dramatic writing for Driving Miss Daisy, the first in his Atlanta Trilogy.
