Blue cloth boards, gilt titles spine. 23.6 x 16cm. 304 pages. b/w illusts, maps, photos. Autobiographical account of the author's life in the Royal Navy. In the early days he was an Observer HMS Courageous when she was torpedoed and sunk off Irelant. Later used by the RAF in a raid on the German Navy dockyard at Wilhelmshaven. He then served at the Admiralty, where he had an inside view of naval operations in 1940. He took part in the expedition to Dakar & the more successful capture of Douala & Libreville with General Leclerc. Following these tropial adventures, he was stationed in the Orkney Islands where he became first CO of the infamous RNAS Twatt. While here he took part in the reconnaissance flight which determined that the Bismarck had slipped into the North Atlantic. His career continues, almost like a James Bond profile!
