A great book for students of Econ/Fin/Bus/History
Sir Thomas Gresham, of "Gresham's Law of Economics" was a brilliant and fascinating Renaissance man, about whom little has been written--he was a financier, entrepreneur, corporate CEO, frequent sailor, ambassador, spy, smuggler, lover, husband. He was ambassador to the Netherlands, and died reputedly the richest man in England. Born into a well-to-do merchant family in 1519, he rose to be a knight of the realm, and a trusted advisor to the Tudors--particularly Elizabeth I. Had it not been for Sir Thomas Gresham, and his sound advice to Elizabeth I, she would not have had the ships, the munitions or the financial wherewithal to beat Philip of Spain's Armada--10 years after Sir Thomas Gresham's death in 1569, at age 60. Robert Allen, CEO of AT&T, hails "Golden Grasshopper" as "entertaining style.....fascinating..." Walter Wriston says of the book, "The lessons for today are unmistakable."
