Up from the Soles of Our Feet--poetry, prose and art
Although I did print my first book of verse at age 7 for limited distribution (my parents) I did not anticipate that life's path would lead me from a corporate law practice to poetry. Perhaps that is why I so admire poems that gently, or not so gently, lead the reader into an unexpected landscape. For me, the poem is a reminder--a reminder to honor the journey, to be awake to the unexpected, to grow with the unforeseen. Up from the Soles of Our Feet arises from the voices of nine very diverse writers brought together by editor Margo LaGattuta. Our poetry, prose and visual art speak of the commonplace and the extraordinary--a Lake Huron sunrise, death of a parent, birth of a child, buying a car, leaving a lover, abuse, depression, hanging fresh laundry on the line. Together, each in her own voice, we celebrate the rhythm and texture of language and the truth of the journey.
