With a special focus on recent elections, this resource explains the social relevance of online democracy through various case studies. Among the topics explored are the emergence of online voting; how the Internet has drawn youth back into politics and the reinvention of political action; online privacy and how it will affect Internet politics; the common mistakes of Net activists and how to avoid them; and propaganda, hacking, and the dark side of online politics. Also addressed is how the Gore Democrats and the Bush Republicans pushed the Internet envelope during the presidential campaign.

Comments and suggestions welcomed!
If you're just getting into online activism, I hope you find this book useful. If you're a long-time online activist, please let me know what you think of how I've presented the material...*and* anything that should have been added/left out! I'd love any and all comments, since my chief premise is that the Net brings a level of interactivity to the political process that simply isn't possible in any other medium. One caveat: some of the URLs in my book have changed, so always check a search engine (Yahoo, Alta Vista, etc.) if the URL you see doesn't compute. Since the book was completed in April 1996, and the number of political and politics-oriented Web sites boomed during the 1996 election six months later, I hope readers will forgive this one area of weakness.
