Autore e designer di A Tale of 12 Kitchens (2006), ha pubblicato le riviste d'arte Cipher (1979-1981) e Atlas (1985-1993), ha insegnato presso il dipartimento di Communication Design del Royal College of Art (1987-1999) e lavora anche come giornalista. Una mostra retrospettiva delle sue opere è stata allestita al Museo Internacional de Electrografia di Cuenca, in Spagna (1997), in parte finanziata dal British Council. È stato uno dei primi ad adottare il World Wide Web come mezzo per l'arte, utilizzando il suo sito web TheCooker (1994). Come graphic designer ha realizzato lavori per aziende come Paul Smith, Haworth Tompkins, Royal National Theatre.
