In 1865 the ceramic historian Llewellynn Jewitt provided the first historical account of the Don Pottery and referred to an engraved pattern book issued by the firm. A detailed account of the pattern book was subsequently provided by Jewitt in his monumental "History of Ceramic Art", first published in 1978. The source and fate of the pattern book seen by Jewitt is unknown and in recent times it had been assumed that the work was lost. During a study of the work of the Doncaster printer William Sheardown a copy of the Don Pottery Pattern Book was noticed by Mrs Christine Brown in Leeds City Reference Library. The Don Pottery Book of 1807 has been reproduced as a joint venture by the Libraries Service and Museums and Arts Service of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council.
