Rius

9780906386002: Marx for Beginners

Synopsis

Rius is the pen-name of Eduardo del Rio. I bought this book because I admired Rius' underground comix, but found it a very useful and informative introduction to the history and theory of communism. The drawings are witty and the book is a painless route to an understanding of this difficult subject: it is very funny! Published 1976 in London by Writers & Readers Publishing Cooperative (when and where I guess marxism was still a living philosophy!), a translation of the Mexican "Marx para Principantes".

Review

-A superb little book in a most improbable format....I recommend it unreservedly for anyone who wants the rudiments of Marx from an engaging mentor....Rius on Marx is magnificent. He shows that pictures can amplify ideas, and that simplicity need not forgo subtlety.-
