Synopsis
This is a unique photographic record - with a vivid accompanying commentary - of the seven shaikhdoms of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Umm al Quwain, Fujairah, Ras al Khaima and Ajman before they combined to form today's sophisticated state of the United Arab Emirates. Up to the exploitation of oil in the 1960s, the traditional pattern of life had remained largely undisturbed for hundreds of years.
The remarkable photographs taken by Ronald Codrai in the 1940s and '50s constitute the outstanding pictorial record of a way of life which has almost completely vanished.
