Synopsis
The theme of the King who serves and who suffers in serving is foretold in the Old Testament and has been a particular source of strength to Christians in countries where oppression and hardship are basic facts of life. The Asian Christian Woman's Conference in 1990 declared: "Through Christ's suffering messiahship, he creates a new humanity". This series of meditations on the twin image of servant and king is illustrated through art from around the world, mostly from developing countries. The combination of words and pictures provides a guide for personal reflection and prayer during the Lent period. It can also help us see these aspects of Jesus' character as present thoughout his earthly ministry and as themes that should inform our own lives throughout the year.
