Over 200 pots are illustrated, representing the entire career, spanning more than fifty years, of a potter whose pursuit of excellence has never wavered. The most recent pieces shown were made as the potter approached her eightieth birthday and are a remarkable witness to her enduring vitality and inventiveness. ?The book is edited by John Houston, the organiser of the exhibition, who also contributes an essay assessing Lucie Rie's career. Others contributing their impressions and evaluations are Janet Leach, Dorris Kuyken-Schneider, Victor Margrie and David Queensberry. The photographs of the pots are by David Cripps. The book includes photographs of marks, a list of dates and lenders and a bibliography. ? Lucie Rie came to England in 1938, a refugee from Austria.
