About the Author
Mary Ropes was a prolific writer of children's books who lived from 1842 to 1932. She was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. She moved to London and spent her later life in Wales. Some of her books include On Peter's Island, Another Moses, Granny's Daughter, In Golden London, and A Russian Boy's Eventful Journey.
Synopsis
A original story of Mary Jones who saved for years to be able to buy a Bible in Welsh, and then walked barefoot from her home to Bala and back (25 miles each way) to be able to buy one. It led to the foundation of the British and Foreign Bible Society.
