New methods to further the practice and understanding of established techniques are presented in this comprehensive analysis of field testing. The authors emphasize case histories which demonstrate the effectiveness or otherwise of field testing in accurately predicting performance. The main themes addressed are strength, deformability, groundwater flow and pressure and geophysical properties in relation to soils and sediments, weak and weathered rocks and strong rocks.
