Synopsis

The book outlines how trees are produced, how to choose a tree, planting them and their aftercare. It gives authoritative "know-how" tips that come from years of hands-on experience. There is also a useful glossary of common names versus Latin names for tracking down any particular tree. The author, Roy Lancaster, gained much of his extensive knowledge and experience when he was curator of the Hillier arboretum and his love and enthusiasm for plants is apparent. A well-known author and broadcaster, Roy has travelled the world, including China, to research new varieties for the garden.
