Synopsis

From the author of "Hardy Plants and Alpines" this book is a guide to every aspect of growing perennials for your garden. Alan Bloom reviews the different varieties and suggests which ones to choose. The A-Z section covers the plant groups most likely to be found in a garden centre. There is a section on ornamental grasses, including those with foliage either within or along the edge of a border. Another section examines basic planning essentials, and hints on tackling an old border. A brief resume on plant names helps the beginner overcome identification problems. The pictures come from the author's Dell Garden at Bressingham and show the designs which can be created with authoritative guidance. Arguably a pioneer of modern day perennial plants, Alan Bloom is also a champion of the Bressingham Steam Museum. His great loves are his steam locomotives, and the plants and garden he has nurtured over the years at Bressingham. In recognition of his contribution to horticulture, the Royal Horticultural Society awarded him their Victoria Medal of Honour in 1972.
