Synopsis
A dictionary of law which has been completely revised and updated to give a basic vocabulary of 7,000 main words with many words and expressions derived from them. All the words and expressions are defined in simple terms, and examples are given of how each word is used in context. The vocabulary covers all aspects of legal terminology from the courtroom to the solicitor's office. It includes prisons, the judicial system, ranks in the police force, as well as the main terms of commercial, criminal, civil, international and property law. It also includes many terms used in government, including terms relating to parliamentary procedure. Differences between British and American usage are highlighted. Latin and French terms are also translated. Throughout the text encyclopaedic comments are given to expand on the definitions: these cover various aspects of legal and parliamentary practice. The supplement section gives specimen documents, such as High Court injunctions, judgments, County Court claims, a divorce petition and a will.
