Synopsis
The novacentury celebrations of Domesday in 1986 stimulated interest in subject and prompted a call for a revised and augmented Domesday map.
The new map is in full colour, with specially designed decorative features. Like its predecessor, it names the hundreds and manors, and indicates the princicipal landholders. In addition, it shows marshland and woodland. The main Roman roads have also been added, to help those studying continuity of settlement during the Dark Ages, and to guide the reader round a map full of strange names.
A gazetter of all the hundreds and manors is appended to the Map. This is followed by a list of the Domesday manors which cannot be precisely located, and by a note on the method of mapping woodland.
