This book gives info on ticks and tick-carried diseases
After a 30-year career studying ticks for the USDA, I retired in 1986 the beginning of the Lyme disease story. I found a lot of bad, old and incorrect information was being circulated in the popular press on ticks that carry Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and other diseases. I had written many research papers and a scientific book and decided to write an accurate, up-to-date and easy-to-read book on ticks and tick carried diseases for the interested general public.
In 1990, Wilderness Press (www.wildernesspress.com) published my little (74 pages) paper-back tick book. It contains a lot of information on ticks--what they are, how they look (there are colored pictures) and how and where they live (there are maps). It has chapters on the diseases ticks carry, how to dress properly and use repellents to keep ticks from getting on you and yours, how to correctly remove ticks and how to control ticks around your home.
The first edition sold almost 20,000 copies so Wilderness Press asked me to update information for a second edition printed in June, 1998. This book gives the reader practical information on how to protect themselves from ticks and tick-carried diseases.
