Synopsis
Few contests have been of longer duration, more fiercely contested or more passionately followed than the baseball rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. This is its story, involving dramatic events and heroes like Babe Ruth, perhaps the greatest player of all, whose sale at the hands of Harry Frazee to the Yankees put things in high gear; Jimmie Foxx and Joe Cronin; Ted Williams and Jo DiMaggio, whose dual pursuit of the home run record in 1941 marks one of the highest points in the game; Billy Martin, Mickey Mantle, Carl Yastrzemski, Reggie Jackson, Carlton Fisk and a dugout-full of others. Tracing the history of this rivalry from its inception to the climactic clash in the division race of 1978, and beyond, this book contains anecdotes about the dramas and characters of 90 years of sporting confrontation.
