This volume brings together leading scholars of the Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient Judaism, and the archaeology and history of Syria-Palestine during the Graeco-Roman period. It is unusual in that it emphasises evaluation of methodologies used in research on the scrolls and at the site. Methodologies are considered under four rubrics: textual interconnections (including reports on unpublished scroll materials), scribal and linguistic problems, archaeology, and historiography. Papers in this volume were presented at a conference sponsored by the New York Academy of Sciences which was held on 14th to 17th December, 1992, in New York City.
