Synopsis

One of the most famous Fighter Groups to serve in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, the unit entered combat in April 1943 while still flying P-40s. They later re-equipped with P-47s and ended the war flying P-51s. The Checkertails compiled an enviable combat record second to none with 529 kills, 27 aces and 2 Distinguished Unit Citations. This 80-page, 8.5 x 11 inch softcover provides a ‘snapshot’ history of the Group, and various sections of the book provide descriptions of the 325th’s aces, pilots and ground crews, as well as descriptions of the aircraft and special events in the Group's history. A number of 325th veterans also provide an invaluable insider’s look of the Group and its operations. Aside from the unit’s history and veteran narratives, the book is a superb pictorial over 250 black & white (and five color) photographs along with eight pages of very well-executed aircraft color profiles.
