About the Author
Shawn Perich, of Minnesota, is a freelance writer specializing in conservation and the outdoors. He is the field editor and a columnist for "Minnesota Outdoor News" and a contributor to many national and regional publications. Gary Alan Nelson of Minnesota is an outdoor photographer specializing in large-format natural history and rural American photography. His images have been used by the "Audubon Society," "Backpacker Magazine," "National Geographic Society," "The Nature Conservancy," "Outdoor Photographer Magazine," "Sierra Club," and "Voyageur Press."
