Summarizing the Sunday readings from a particular perspective, this book provokes reflection on issues raised by the readings, and helps readers prepare to proclaim the texts publicly. It also serves to guide small groups in discussion of the readings, and it invites individual Christians to read, study and pray with the Sunday readings. Specifically, for each Sunday of the Year (Year B), this book offers: a weekly theme, dates when Year A will be observed in the future, scripture citations, brief scripture quotes from each reading and the responsorial psalm, commentaries and questions for reflection and discussion. The book's aims is to help readers prepare for the Sunday liturgy, so they can continue to live its message all week. In addition, it attempts to introduce them to a method of interpreting the scriptures, allowing them to shed some of the insecurity they may feel when pressed to answer, "How does this apply to my life?" The book includes a brief appendix which contains suggestions for entering into "conversation" with God's Word. Philip J. McBrien is the author of "Exploring the Sunday Readings", "How to Teach with the Lectionary" and "The Word of the Lord, Year A".
