The papers are derived from a meeting on theoretical neuroscience held in Bad Homburg, West Germany, in September 1986. The book presents an intensive exchange of ideas by a selected interdisciplinary circle on theoretical problems of neural information processing. The papers have been revised and supplemented with edited versions of the discussions or comments subsequently sent to the editors.
