Synopsis
The study of basic acoustics can help students of physics and engineering gain familiarity with concepts and techniques that have much wider use in other areas of science. In the first few chapters of this book the author discusses sound and its measurement from a relatively practical point of view, enabling students to proceed with many kinds of measurements and laboratory experiments. Afterwards, the basic theory of vibrations and waves that underlies all sound phenomena and instrumentation is discussed and used to show the basis for practical work with room acoustics, environmental noise and sound-reproduction systems.
