Synopsis
Teaching students to work and play together is an important mission of schools. Many students do not come to class possessing the skills necessary for positive interactions with their peers and teachers. However, these pro-social skills can be taught. This booklet provides teacher-friendly ideas for encouraging cooperation in and out of the classroom. Simple strategies are described, such as designing a classroom layout to facilitate students interactions. More complex approaches for instituting cooperative learning and peer tutoring to foster socialization and learning are delineated. Finally, this book addresses specific behavior problems that interfere with pro-social interactions and offers specific methods for addressing and correcting these problems.
