From the Foreword: "The aim of this book is to give an introduction to digital image processing. In line with the general theme of the book series, special emphasis is placed on the signal aspects of image processing. I see the special attraction of image processing in the interesting interaction of intuitive and theoretical approaches which can always be evaluated by illustrative examples. Accordingly, this book attempts to give the reader an understanding of this young and increasingly important area, relying heavily on a large number of simulation examples. It helps, in understanding the book, to have a knowledge of the mathematics given in university engineering courses and the basics of linear systems theory, signal processing and probability calculus."
