Synopsis

What Would Jesus Do?

In His Steps is the story of what happened when a group of late-nineteenth-century Christians began to try to find answers to the question, "What would Jesus do?" Their honest answers to this question resulted in them acting upon what they believed Jesus would do in given situations in their lives. They did this without regard to the possible consequences of results of their actions.

Author Charles M. Sheldon, disguised himself as an unemployed printer and walked the streets of Topeka, Kansas, seeking employment and help from Christians and churches. He was researching the concern and compassion of church members and their willingness to help those in need. He was shocked by their lack of response and caring.

As a result, he wrote a series of stories that asked the question, "What would Jesus do," and read them from his pulpit on Sunday evenings. Within a few weeks he was reading to standing-room-only crowds that included many young people. As Sheldon unfolded his story, the question, "What would Jesus do?" stirred their spirits as nothing had before.

This is the question that young people and many others are still asking today. It is a question that demands an answer in our contemporary society. It needs to be asked and answered continually.

In His Steps was first published more than a century ago, and since then millions of copies have been sold in more than forty-five countries. It has been translated into at least twenty languages.

Sometimes the answer to one question changes everything

When Rev. Henry Maxwell asked the members of his small church to pledge not to do anything, whether significant or mundane, without first asking themselves the question "What would Jesus do?" he had no idea what the next year would bring. Neither did those who agreed to this seemingly easy task. One by one, their lives would change. But what they never anticipated was how their entire town would be affected.

Now the novel that has changed millions of lives can change yours as well. Discover this classic story for yourself and find out why the words penned more than a century ago are more powerful than ever.

Charles M. Sheldon was a pastor in 1896 when he chose to preach one Sunday night on the question "What would Jesus do?" A sermon became a series, that became an article, that became a book, that became a movement. And the book has sold over 30 million copies.
