First American edition. Size is octavo (8vo), 8.75"/22cm h. Bound in publisher's black cloth, gilt lettering to spine. Glossy color photographic dj. Plain white endpapers. 257 numbered pp, [258] blank; numbering starts at 13, but preceded by only [10] pp. Contents, list of figures, Parts on: Intro and Background; Trying a Wargame; Writing Rules; Periods and Types of Games. Bibliography, index. Numerous tables/charts, a handful of maps. Condition notes: unclipped dj worn and scuffed but lacks tears or chips; price sticker ghost to front. Boards moderately worn, spine ends rolled, corners lightly bumped; interior shows. Interior clean but for half dozen pages with light marginalia and underlining, fairly discreet. Focused heavily on 'miniatures' wargaming, there is nonetheless a chapter on board wargaming (by Finch).
