Racine's Phedre, and conducted the rehearsals, Goethe being ill. Family sickness wore him out, and in February 1805, he was him self ih bed with fever, but in March managed to get out to see Goethe. For a short time Schiller felt fairly well, but on the 29th of April, 1805, he was again attacked by fever and rapidly grew weaker, despite the extreme care shown by Lotte, and on the 9th of May his spirit passed away. He had fought hard through life, and a nation's love is his abiding reward.
