Martens, Rainer

9780880113762: Successful Coaching

Synopsis

"Successful Coaching" is an introduction to the art and science of coaching. It includes information on developing a positive coaching philosophy; applying the principles of coaching assimilated from the fields of sport psychology, sport pedagogy, and sport physiology; and using sport management skills effectively. While retaining much of the first edition, "Successful Coaching" contains changes that are the direct result of suggestions from many coaches who have used the text. The second edition was revised expressly to meet the needs of physical education teachers and novice coaches of performers in secondary school and college settings. In addition, the book was renamed to reflect this change of emphasis. Other changes include: a more practical approach to developing instructional plans; a new chapter to help coaches understand how performers learn sports skills; and updates in the sport psychology and sport physiology sections to include important new findings. A new chapter to help coaches deal with the problems of drug use in sports, and a new sport management section that includes highly practical chapters on managing a team, managing risk, managing stress, and managing time have been included.
