Synopsis
Written for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students, this text provides an integrated presentation of the expanding field of behavioural endocrinology - the study of hormone-behaviour interactions. Using a comparative approach, the text explores how hormone-behaviour interactions have evolved in both humans and non-human animals to solve common problems in survival and reproduction. Topics include: the interactions between hormones and sexually dimorphic behaviours; mating and parental behaviours; homeostatic and rhythmic behaviours; as well as learning, memory and mood. The text is written for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students in psychology or biology. Summaries at the end of each chapter outline key points. Discussion questions and suggested reading are also included for each chapter.
