About the Author

AUTHOR: Marjorie Cochrane, a former staff writer for newspapers in Alaska and Idaho, holds a journalism degree from the University of Oregon. After retiring, she and her late husband, Byron, spent ten years growing coffee on Hawaii’s Kona coast. She now makes her home on Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula. She has five children and seventeen grandchildren.ILLUSTRATOR : Jon Van Zyle, one of Alaska’s premier artists, is an award-winning artist and children’s book illustrator. During his three-decade career, he has received countless honors in the United States, Europe, and Russia, and he has been the official artist of Alaska’s Iditarod dog-sled races since 1979. Jon and his wife, Jona, also an artist, live near Eagle River, Alaska, where they raise and train Siberian huskies.
