Hardback. Condition: Near fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Low, Joseph (illustrator). First. Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride," has been published in many forms and illustrated in many waysand even sometimes with alternative titlesbut in this case it is as a stand-alone hardback picture book by renowned illustrator Joseph Low, who wrote an introduction as well as created the book's design and illustrations. Low was a freelance illustrator who may best be known for the covers he drew for the "New Yorker," starting in 1940. But his style lent itself particularly well to children's picture books, as seen by his total output: the Library of Congress lists 65 titles with him as either illustrator and author or illustrator alone, with all but a few designed for children. He was awarded a Caldecott Honor in 1981 for his work on the book "Mice Twice." This copy of "Paul Revere's Ride" is in excellent shape, with only an ink inscription on the front free end paper and very small hand written pencil price in the upper corner of that same page keeping us from listing it in "Fine" condition. The dust jacket shows some water damage on the front, making the jacket's condition Very Good; any staining is virtually indistinguishable from the gray mottled watercolor background that is part of the artist's design. The text block is tight and there are no missing or loose pages, nor any tears or creases. This is a first printing of the first edition. A nice addition for any collector. See our photos.
