Synopsis
In contemporary society we no longer believe in the demons and spirits that plagued the lives of ancient and medieval peoples. However, according to Alfred Ribi these demons have appeared in the form of our psychological complexes that form those unconscious feelings, ideas and impulses that have been fully integrated into our identity and thus have split away to lead a life of their own. As a result, our anxieties and complusions - related to achievement, power, money, sex, ideologies and other obsessions - threaten to overwhelm us and sabotage our conscious intentions and efforts. This book serves as a practical introduction to dealing with our complexes and an accessible survey of the principles of Jungian psychology. Dr Ribi demonstrates how our complexes manifest in everyday life and likens the psychotherapist to the traditional medicine man or shaman, who can lead one safely through an encounter with the spirits and devils of the unconscious.
