About the Author
KENNETH E. EBLE was professor of English and University professor at the University of Utah until his death in 1988. He was the author of numerous other books, including The Art of Administration (1978) and The Aims of College Teaching (1983).

Updated and revised in 1988, and now issued for the first time in paperback, this book offers fresh insights on issues of Anduring importance from how students learn and how to make the best use of the classroom to the nuts and bolts of assignments, tests, grades, and textbooks. Eble devotes a chapter to critical thinking analyzing such questions as what spurs us to think, how we move from random thought to problem solving, and what teachers can do to encourage and develop students′ thinking. He also discusses the impact of computer–aided instruction on teaching, and offers a section on mentoring.
