A new final chapter (Chapter 25) brings the conversation up-to-date. It includes three sections: one on naturalism, realism, and the philosophy of mind, featuring Quine and Dennett; one on postmodernism, featuring Derrida and Rorty; and one on recent developments in feminist philosophy.
Myriad changes reflect the feedback of users of the third edition. The text has been made clearer and more readable for students.
The text offers improved treatments of Plato on justice and Hume on causation, and more clarity about Descartes' aims in the Meditations.
