This volume contains the proceedings of the International Symposium on Emerging Separation Technologies for Metals II, sponsored by the Engineering Foundation and the National Science Foundation. The symposium was held in Kona, Hawaii, June 16-21, 1996. Co-sponsors were The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. There are 23 papers which present an in-depth account of current research in the following areas: fundamentals, adsorption, extraction, molten phases, processing, electro-technology, and industrial processing and economics. Coverage includes: thermodynamic modelling of molten metal systems; a novel separation of technology for removal, and recovery of metals from aqueous solutions; microemulsions - compartmentalized fluids for metal separations and materials synthesis; separation of radioactive components in nuclear waste processing; co-ordination chemistry and the development of metal ion-specific separating agents; and the influence of environmental control systems on aluminium treatment processes for quality metal production.
