Synopsis
This volume is derived from a collection of papers from Materials Week '93, held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, October 17 to 21, 1993. It focuses on in-situ processing methods for composite systems that include matrix formation via powder procession, matrix-fiber strengthening by interface-phase formation and reinforcement formation based on non-reinforcement precursors. Focusing on aspects and resulting mechanical properties, this book discusses techniques such as tailored interface processing, lanxide, dimox, primex and XD processing. Also covered are approaches such as free-form fabrication and containerless composite processing where in-situ-produced constituents result.
