Synopsis
This volume is the second in a series of publications that takes a multidisciplinary approach to the study of the metallurgy and mechanics involved in the machining process. A focus is placed on conventional metal cutting processes and the influence of the workpiece and tool materials. Coverage includes: quatitative assessment of the influence of calcium and tellurium additions on tool wear; investigation of machinabillity of as-HIPped gamma titanium aluminide; the mechanical behaviour of zinc during machining; thermal expansion of the workpiece in turning; cutting force variations due to drill vibrations. The book is drawn from a collection of papers from Materials Week '94 held in Rosemont, Illinois, October 2-6, 1994, and the 1994 American Society of Mechanical Engineers Winter Annual Meeting held in Chicago, Illinois, November 6-11, 1994.
