Recognizing that a major portion of the industrial application of solidification simulation technology has been related to the automotive industry in one way or another, this contains reference material for the industry. The book is divided into four sections. "Worldwide Trends" describes the status of technological development and industrial application of numerical simulation of casting solidification in the three major technological regions of the world (North America, Europe and Japan). "Solidification Simulation" contains papers on finite-element and finite-difference codes dealing with simulation of casting solidification. "Events Related to Solidifcation" deals with molten metal flow and development of microstructure and residual stress. Finally, "Computing Efficiency" addresses performance of various codes for solidification simulation and pre- and post-processing methods.
