Synopsis
Christine's story explores the modern predicament, the experience of alienation and the quest for meaning in a world in which fashion, trend, and consumption have replaced the grand, cosmic myths of the past and created a way of life in which there is no longer any sense of Time, Place, or World. In Dear Ruth, Christine finds that she must retreat from the world that she had always called home, and this retreat leads her to the primordial world, where all things begin anew, where the clutter of modern life has been cleared away. It is a place of beginnings, or origins, a place of love, friendship, death, and nature--a place of spirit. It becomes both her starting point and destination in her search for meaning, understanding, and appreciation. And so her retreat becomes a quest, one that is fraught with danger and uncertainty.
