About the Author
Before coming to the mountains, Horace Kephart (1862-1931) served as librarian of the prestigious Mercantile Library in St. Louis. His significant work, however, was done after he came to live in the Southern Appalachians in 1904. He played important roles in the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Appalachian Trail.
George Ellison is a writer, naturalist, and historian living near Bryson City, North Carolina, adjacent to the Smokies and the Eastern Band of Cherokee. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Tenth Printing. 474 pages, including an Introduction by George Ellison and a preface to the Revised edition, 20 chapters and an index. There is one crease across the entire spine. On the bottom of the page edges there is a bookstore book stamp and on the top of the page edges there is the beginnings of some brown spotting (very light). There are a relatively small number of markings in the margin, perhaps where someone stopped reading or alternatively maybe an important paragraph is being marked, I am not sure. This is a long and rather heavy softcover work, that is in rather nice condition overall. This classic southern appalachian book that is widely known, read, and respected was first printed in 1913 and has been reprinted many times since. Available for immediate shipment, carefully packed!
