Synopsis

As the applications of spectroscopy expanded rapidly earlier this century, it became evident that a regulatory body was required to ensure the compatability of spectra measured on instruments of different design. IUPAC took on this responsibility and established a Commission on Molecular Structure and Spectroscopy in 1955. The Commission has led the way in producing authoritative sets of calibration standards ever since.
