Synopsis
In her second collection of poetry entitled Daily Bread, Henderson-Holmes fearlessly tackles issues such as abuse, racism, black love and realization of self while poking holes in the inconsistencies, assumptions and irrationalities of the belief systems which exist today. Biting words speak stinging truths, drawing vivid sketches of true life occurances and personal remembrances.
Poems such as "witnessing a statement" in which a woman defends herself after being raped, "food" based on the shooting of a young African-American girl by a Korean woman in Los Angeles and "mergence: the fusion of two selves, will leave people thinking and learning long after reading.
