Synopsis
Divided into two parts, the background and the conflict, thisis a crash course in the Arab/Israeli conflict that starts with the basics,proceeds with a history lesson (from Jericho, 8,000 B.C, through the birth ofIslam, the Crusades, and to the first Jewish settlers in what is now Israel inthe 1890s) and moves on to a detailed section on the current conflict, eachchapter punctuated with an examination of the real differences between theparties, sorting irrelevant facts from what is important, translating all theofficial statements into plain English, and concluding with the prospects andobstructions to peace in the Middle East. Simplicity and accuracy make this anexcellent primer on a deeply complicated subject.
