paperback. Condition: Very Good. 287 p., clean and unmarked on strong unaged paper; maps, ads, photos; binding firm; clean glossy wrapper fine except for crushed upper corner. Not all the restaurants can be guaranteed to still be in business, but all the reviews are interesting. Sample for Regent Tandoori: "A Standard curry house a samosa's throw from Eros." (One assumes the statue in London). But also, for Red Fort: "This is Amin Ali's flagship. A great site in the middle of Soho guarantees a huge turnover of diners. Amin Ali's skill consists in encouraging the diner to spend, spend,spend. He was the designer of the fancy named and fancy priced cocktails 'Between the Sheets' and 'Peacock Throne.'" What follows is an in-depth analysis of the decline of the quality of the cuisine since the best chef left. Quite a few reviews give biographies of the owners and chefs, complete with mini-histories of the areas from which they fled. Decor as well as cuisine is critiqued, and include a complaint that the mahogany English chairs in a Bangladeshi restaurant in Oxford was at odds with the ethnic feel of the place.
